Ensuring a Future for Animals
The Ozaukee Humane Society is constructing a new, state-of-the-art facility at the corner of Highway 33 and West Dekora Woods Boulevard in Saukville. The LEED-certified, green facility will include an adoption center, veterinary clinic and educational classroom space.
The current Ozaukee shelter was originally constructed as a theatre concession stand and despite renovations to extend its life, a new shelter is necessary to provide proper housing, veterinary care and behavioral intervention for animals.
The Ozaukee Humane Society Victoria Wellens Center will be an oasis for animals and a treasure for the children and adults in the community. It will also be the first “green,” LEED-certified animal shelter in the Midwest, and one of only a handful in the entire country. The increased access and visibility will lead to a higher adoption rate, expanded educational offerings, more volunteers and greater community involvement.
Engaging the Whole Community
The total costs for this project will be six million dollars. A group of dedicated individuals are working with the Board of Directors to ensure that the campaign is successful. Residents from the greater Northshore area, along with local and national corporations and foundations with a demonstrated interest in animal welfare, are being asked to help fund the campaign.
