Dogs
Thrown from Car Recovering at the Ozaukee Humane
Society
GRAFTON,
Wis. - The Ozaukee Humane Society is urging
anyone with information about who may have thrown
two puppies from a car on August 6 to notify the
Village of Saukville Police Department.
Luckily,
Bean and Cornelia survived being tossed out of a
car. The pups pulled themselves up onto all four
legs and Bean took off running. A Good Samaritan
witnessed the situation, scooped up Cornelia and
took her straight to the Ozaukee Humane Society
for help. OHS staff immediately rushed out and rescued
Bean, who was found in a farmer's bean field. While
neither sibling sustained serious injuries, it was
discovered Bean and Cornelia have a skin disorder
called mange, a contagious parasite that makes their
hair fall out and is very uncomfortable for them.
Mange is also contagious to humans.
Bean
and Cornelia were started on a regimen of medicated
baths twice per week as well as antibiotics. The
pups are young and otherwise healthy, and OHS staff
is confident they will recover quickly. Once the
OHS veterinarian gives the clean bill of health,
Bean and Cornelia will
be available for adoption.
The
individual(s) who tossed Bean and Cornelia out of
a car have not yet been caught, and police are keeping
the case open. In addition to witnesses of animal
cruelty contacting their local police department,
OHS encourages the community to become animal advocates
and participate in our advocacy campaign; call (262)
377-7580 for more information.
