Dog Walking and Socialization

Regular exercise is important for both humans and animals. Our Dog Walkers provide each dog in adoption the opportunity to get outside and stretch their legs. This program is designed to establish lifelong behaviors that will make the animal more adoptable and a great canine citizen! Dogs learn new cues and get their mental wheels turning, enhancing them physically, emotionally and behaviorally. Volunteers must be able to communicate information about the dogs to staff and other volunteers. In addition, volunteers must be able to handle all sizes and types of dogs, walk short distances and be dedicated to maintaining a clean environment. Eagerness to implement the consistent handling techniques outlined in the training classes provided by OHS is a must to ensure that dogs go to their new homes with good manners. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old or 13 years old when accompanied by a parent. There is a minimum six-month commitment of at least two hours per week, including throughout Wisconsin winter weather.

If you are interested in this position, please fill out our volunteer application.

If you have questions about the volunteer program, please email the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@ozaukeehumane.org.
